SCOPE
Melcar Ltd was contracted to install (4) 36” bores ranging in length from 140’ to 300’. To complete the install properly, the team decided upon a pilot tube guided approach to ensure the bores stayed on the correct path through the anticipated soft, sandy ground around the area.
CHALLENGES
With the bore paths going directly under multiple roadways and a highway and the existence of softer than normal ground conditions, the team knew it would be extremely challenging to keep the sewer line on grade. The team decided to use the guided pilot tube method to ensure all pipes would be installed accurately, even at the required 30’ depths through the sandy, wet ground conditions.
SUCCESS FACTORS/OUTCOMES
Even though the team encountered some unexpected minor rocky conditions as well, the team was able to complete the extremely challenging bores on time, on budget, and on grade. The customer was very pleased with the professionalism of the crews as well as the safety and quality precautions used on site.
